Base44 and Wix: what the acquisition changed, and can you move your app into Wix?
Wix bought Base44 in June 2025, and Base44 still runs as its own product. The changes users see are practical: Wix domains, Wix-powered payments and tools for Wix sites. There is no documented way to transfer a Base44 app into Wix, so here are the options that do exist.

The short version
Wix owns Base44. Wix announced the acquisition on 18 June 2025, for an initial payment of about $80 million plus earn-out payments through 2029 tied to performance. It said Base44 would keep running as a distinct product, and as of October 2026 it still has its own site, plans and documentation. Base44’s terms of service now make Wix.com Ltd. the company you contract with.
For people building on Base44, the documented changes so far are practical ones. Domains bought inside Base44 now come from Wix. Apps can take payments through Base44 Payments powered by Wix. Base44 also offers ways to build apps on top of a Wix site.
There is no documented way to transfer a Base44 app into Wix. Neither Base44’s documentation nor Wix’s help center describes one as of October 2026. If you want your app and a Wix website together, the realistic options are to put the app on a subdomain of your Wix domain, embed it in a Wix page, rebuild it in Wix, or move the app onto accounts you own and link to it. Each is explained below.
The acquisition: what was announced
Wix’s press release of 18 June 2025 set out the terms:
- Initial consideration: approximately $80 million.
- Earn-outs: additional payments through 2029, based on performance metrics.
- Retention: approximately $25 million in retention bonuses to Base44 employees in 2025.
- Product: “Base44 will continue to operate as a distinct product and business.”
Later reporting covered the earn-outs. On 4 August 2026, Calcalist reported that Wix had disclosed in its second-quarter earnings an additional $41 million payment to Base44’s founder, Maor Shlomo, after further milestones were met. Calcalist put his total since the sale at more than $150 million.
What has changed for Base44 users since
Only what Base44’s and Wix’s own pages document, as of October 2026:
- Who you contract with. Base44’s terms of service (last updated 22 June 2026) are an agreement with “Wix.com Ltd., which operates the Base44-branded services”. Base44’s security page lists Wix.com Ltd. (Israel) among its subprocessors, for providing and improving the services.
- Domains. Base44’s docs say almost every domain bought in Base44 now comes from Wix. You pay Wix at checkout, Wix sends the verification email, and Wix keeps the list of extensions the free-domain voucher covers. If an app moves to another workspace, its domain stays on the original workspace’s Wix account.
- Payments. Base44 Payments powered by Wix is now Base44’s built-in payment option, covered in the next section. Base44’s terms allow it to set Wix Payments as the default payment provider where it’s available. Stripe is still supported.
- Building on Wix sites. The Base44 app on the Wix App Market builds custom tools and AI agents on top of a Wix site, using its live products, orders, bookings and contacts, while payments and orders stay on Wix. Base44’s connector catalog includes a Wix connector for site analytics, customers and orders, and Superagents can work across a Wix site.
Notice the direction: each of these brings Wix data or Wix services into Base44. None of them moves a Base44 app into Wix.
Base44 Payments powered by Wix
Base44 Payments powered by Wix lets an app take one-time payments and subscriptions without setting up a separate payment provider. The main points, as of October 2026:
- Plan: Builder or higher.
- Where: your business and bank account must be in one of 12 countries: the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, Portugal, Finland, Lithuania, Austria or Italy.
- Payment methods: cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal (US only), and, depending on your country, Affirm, Klarna, Afterpay/Clearpay, iDEAL, Bancontact and Twint.
- Terms and fees: payments are subject to Wix Payments service fees and Wix’s payment terms. Some products and services can’t be sold.
- Verification: your app must be published and reachable from anywhere while Wix verifies it. Payouts start once your account is verified. Processing typically takes 2 to 5 business days, and you can choose a daily, weekly or monthly payout schedule.
- Records: settlement reports, with each transaction and its fee, can be downloaded as CSV, and usually stay available even if the account is disconnected.
An older integration called Payments by Wix still works for apps that already connected it, but new installations aren’t supported.
If you might move your app one day, know how each option is tied to Base44. With Stripe, you claim the sandbox by connecting your own Stripe account or creating one, so the account is yours. Base44 Payments is set up from inside Base44, and Base44’s docs don’t describe using that account from an app hosted somewhere else. Payment webhooks are registered by Base44 with the provider, and the Apps API docs say you can’t repoint them yourself.
Can you move a Base44 app into Wix?
Not directly. A Base44 app is a React application whose data, sign-ins, functions and integrations run on Base44’s backend. A Wix or Wix Studio site is built in Wix’s own editors on Wix’s own platform. As of October 2026, neither company documents a conversion from one to the other. Here are the realistic options, from least to most work.
Option 1: keep the app on Base44, at a subdomain of your Wix domain
Your Wix site keeps yourbusiness.com, and the app lives at app.yourbusiness.com. Base44 supports connecting a subdomain with a CNAME record, on the Starter plan or higher. In Wix, you add that record under Manage DNS Records (Connecting a subdomain to an external resource). If your domain is connected to Wix by pointing rather than name servers, you add it at your domain host instead. Then link to the app from your Wix menu.
This is the least work, and nothing about the app changes. It also leaves the app, its users and its data on Base44.
Option 2: embed the app in a Wix page
Wix’s Embed a site element (an HTML iFrame in Wix Studio) can show another site inside a page. Two settings decide whether it works. Wix only displays HTTPS addresses and can’t show sites that forbid embedding. Base44 lets you choose who can embed your app (Anyone, Only these sites or No one), and its security scan recommends blocking embedding for apps with login or payments, to prevent clickjacking. If you embed, choose Only these sites and list your Wix domain. Test signing in inside the embed before you rely on it.
Option 3: rebuild it in Wix
This fits when your “app” is mostly a website: pages, content, a contact form, perhaps a simple catalog. You rebuild the pages in Wix, export each Base44 table to CSV, and import it into a Wix CMS collection (up to 50,000 items and 1 GB per file). What doesn’t come along: your backend functions, workflows and access rules, which have to be rebuilt in Wix’s own way, and your users’ passwords. Base44 never exports passwords, so every user would need to sign up or reset their password. Our guide to exporting Base44 users covers what you can take.
Option 4: move the app to accounts you own, and link it from Wix
If the app is a real application, with accounts, roles, data and logic, you can keep it as it is but run it on your own hosting, then put it on a subdomain as in option 1. That is what Unbase44 does: the same frontend, a Base44-compatible backend, your tables with their access rules, your records, files and users, in your own GitHub repository and hosting account. Users keep their passwords. Unbase44 is made by Codama and is independent of Base44 and Wix. The step-by-step migration guide shows the order to do it in.
Base44 vs Wix Studio
Both now belong to Wix, and they do different jobs:
| Base44 | Wix Studio | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is, in its own words | An AI platform that builds apps and websites, including frontend, backend, database and user sign-in, from plain-language descriptions (pricing page) | “The web platform built for agencies and enterprises” (Wix Studio) |
| How you build | Describe what you want in an AI chat, then refine | Visual editor with design, CMS and developer tools |
| Typical result | An app people sign into, with their own data, roles and workflows | Websites for clients: marketing sites, stores, content |
| Moving between them | No documented path either way for a whole project | No documented path either way for a whole project |
The question to ask is whether you’re building a website or an app. If most of what you built on Base44 is public pages, a website builder like Wix Studio is a natural home, and a rebuild is often modest. If people sign in and work with their own data, it’s an app. Keep it an app, on Base44 or on accounts you own, and connect it to your website with a link or a subdomain.
Questions and answers
Is Base44 owned by Wix?
Yes. Wix announced it had acquired Base44 on 18 June 2025. Base44’s terms of service now name Wix.com Ltd. as the company that operates the Base44-branded services.
How much did Wix pay for Base44?
Wix’s announcement gave an initial consideration of about $80 million, plus earn-out payments through 2029 based on performance and about $25 million in retention bonuses for employees. In August 2026, Calcalist reported a further $41 million earn-out payment to the founder, taking his total above $150 million.
How do I transfer my Base44 app to Wix?
There is no documented transfer as of October 2026. You can put the Base44 app on a subdomain of your Wix domain, embed it in a Wix page, or rebuild it in Wix from CSV exports of your tables. Rebuilding means recreating backend logic and asking users to set new passwords.
What is Base44 Payments powered by Wix?
It’s Base44’s built-in payment provider, run on Wix Payments. It’s available on the Builder plan and above, for businesses in 12 countries including the US and UK, and supports cards, wallets and, depending on country, buy-now-pay-later and local methods. Wix Payments fees and terms apply.
Should I use Base44 or Wix Studio?
Use Base44 when you need an app that people sign into, with their own data and roles. Use Wix Studio when you’re building websites, especially for clients. Many businesses use both: the website on Wix, and the app on a subdomain.
