Cancelling Base44: end the subscription and keep your app running
Cancelling Base44 takes six clicks. Doing it without breaking a live app takes a little planning, because paid features stop at the end of the billing period. Here is the exact path, what changes on the Free plan, and the right order if you are moving the app first.

How to cancel on the web
From Base44’s billing documentation:
- Click your workspace name at the bottom left of your account.
- Click Settings.
- Click Plan and billing.
- Click Manage Plan.
- Click Cancel Plan.
- Click Cancel Plan again to confirm.
You keep full access until the end of the period you’ve paid for. At the end of it, your workspace moves to the Free plan.
On a phone’s browser
The same path, with one difference: Plan and billing opens a Manage Payments window as a pop-up, so allow pop-ups in your browser. For monthly plans, tap Manage Payments a second time, then Cancel subscription, and confirm. If the pop-up misbehaves, Base44 suggests doing it from a desktop browser.
If you subscribed in the iOS app
Subscriptions bought through Base44’s iPhone or iPad app are billed by Apple, and Base44 can’t cancel or refund them for you. Open Settings on the device, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, and choose your Base44 subscription. Refund requests go to Apple. You can only hold a paid plan on one platform at a time, so to move to a plan bought on the web, cancel the Apple subscription, wait until the account is back on Free, then subscribe on the site.
What happens when you cancel
- Renewals stop. Cancelling doesn’t refund the current period; Base44’s terms describe fees as non-refundable.
- At the end of the period, you’re on the Free plan. Your apps stay live, but features that need a paid plan stop working, and Free allows up to 5 apps.
- You can’t pause. Base44 doesn’t offer a pause option, and once you’ve cancelled you can’t buy the same plan again until the current period ends.
- Unused credits expire. Monthly credits don’t carry over, whether or not you cancel.
- Yearly plans are different. Base44’s terms treat yearly fees as non-cancellable and non-refundable, and you can’t switch a yearly plan to monthly yourself. Support may review mistakes case by case.
- Israel has its own rules. The terms include an addendum for residents of Israel on the Starter and Builder plans: cancellation takes effect within three days, with a partial refund less a cancellation fee.
Don’t dispute the charge with your bank to get out of a plan. Base44 documents that an open chargeback suspends the workspace: it moves to the Free plan straight away, backend functions, connectors and the model picker stop, credits become unavailable and custom domains are disabled. Cancelling is the safer route.
What stops working on the Free plan
Based on Base44’s pricing and billing pages:
| Feature | On a paid plan | On Free |
|---|---|---|
| Number of apps | Unlimited (Starter and up) | Up to 5 |
| Message credits (building with AI) | 100 to 1,200+ a month | 25 a month, at most 5 a day |
| Integration credits (email, AI, uploads, workflow steps) | 2,000 to 50,000+ a month | 100 a month |
| Custom domain | Starter and up | Not included |
| Backend functions | Builder and up | Not included |
| Workflows | Builder and up | Not included |
| GitHub sync and ZIP export | Builder and up | Not included |
| Custom Google sign-in branding | Builder and up | Not included |
| New private apps | Starter and up (since 6 February 2026) | Not included |
The practical effect depends on your app. A simple app that shows and edits data keeps working; reading and writing the database doesn’t use credits. An app that sends emails, calls AI or runs scheduled jobs will start failing once it needs a feature Free doesn’t include or runs through the 100 monthly integration credits, and your users will see a generic error.
Cancelling isn’t deleting
Cancelling ends your subscription. Your account, your apps and their data remain. Deleting is separate and more final:
- Deleting an app (Dashboard → Settings → Danger Zone → Delete App) takes it offline and releases its custom domains, connected integrations and automations, which don’t come back if you restore it. Deleted apps sit in Trash for 30 days (Privacy and security).
- Deleting your account is a separate request described in Base44’s account settings documentation.
Don’t delete anything until you’re sure you have what you need from it.
If you’re moving your app: do things in this order
Cancelling first and migrating second is the most common mistake. Some parts of your app can only be copied while your plan includes them. The safe order:
- Migrate while your plan is active. Code export needs Builder or higher. Your functions’ secret values can be read automatically while the plan includes backend functions; after a downgrade, you would have to find and paste each one yourself.
- Check the new app thoroughly. Sign in, click through the main flows, test emails, payments and any scheduled jobs.
- Move your domain. Point your custom domain’s DNS at the new app. Until then your users are still on the Base44 copy, which is fine.
- Stop scheduled work on Base44. Deactivate automations or workflows on the Base44 copy once the new app is live, so jobs don’t run twice.
- Cancel the subscription. The Base44 app stays live on the Free plan.
- Keep the Base44 app published for a while. With Unbase44, each user’s first sign-in on the new app is checked against Base44 once and then stored as your own password hash. The Free plan keeps sign-in working, which is all this step needs.
- Retire the Base44 app once your active users have signed in on the new one.
Done in that order, your users never notice, and you stop paying the platform as soon as the new app is serving them.
What to budget instead
A Base44 plan costs from $16 a month (Starter) to $160 a month (Elite) billed yearly, or $20 to $200 month to month (pricing). After a move you pay your providers for what your app uses: hosting and a database, plus email and AI usage if your app sends mail or uses AI. Small apps often run for a few dollars to a few tens of dollars a month; during an Unbase44 migration you see what each option is expected to cost before you choose. The migration itself is a one-time price per app, and free during the beta.
Questions and answers
Can I get a refund when I cancel Base44?
Base44’s terms describe fees as non-refundable, and cancelling doesn’t refund the current period. Support may help in special circumstances. Subscriptions bought through the iOS app are refunded by Apple, and residents of Israel on Starter or Builder have a statutory partial refund.
Will my app go offline if I cancel?
No. Apps stay live on the Free plan. Features that need a paid plan stop, such as backend functions, workflows and custom domains, and Free allows up to 5 apps.
Can I pause my Base44 subscription instead?
No. Base44 doesn’t offer a pause. You can downgrade to a cheaper plan, which takes effect at the end of the current period.
Do I lose my data when I cancel?
Not by cancelling. Your apps and their data stay in your workspace on the Free plan. Deleting an app or your account is a separate step. Base44’s terms do reserve the right to delete data after a subscription is terminated, so keep your own exports either way.
